    Description

A beautiful heavy blown glass decanter with a bulbous body with trailed vertical strip decoration and an out-curving faceted neck; the rim surface and base ground smooth; possibly Spanish, circa 1850 - 1870.
This fabulous decanter was designed for serving wine. It never had a stopper so the contents would have been drunk immediately at the dinner table rather than kept for a period of time after decanting the wine from a bottle, which is the point of a stoppered decanter. We are not sure of the provenance but the type of decoration is very reminiscent of Spanish glass.
The decanter is 8 5/8 inches tall with a bulbous body decorated with vertical strips of glass indented with a glassblower's tool.
The neck is faceted and out-curving and the rim and foot are ground smooth. There is a rough pontil mark on the base which
indicates that the decanter was free-blown rather than made in a mould.
The condition is excellent with a few tiny nibbles around the rim. There are no chips, cracks or restoration and no discoloration. This decanter is bright and clean on the exterior and interior.
All in all a fantastic decanter for everyday use and a beautiful display item. Also, a fine addition to your dealer inventory. SELLING WITHOUT RESERVE!!
